For all the criticism lobbied against U.S. automakers, there is one area where the American car makers take the lead: FFVs. Flexible fuel vehicles [FFV, which are powered by a fuel comprised of up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, are produced and marketed by American manufacturers at volumes greater than their Asian or European competitors combined.

DaimlerChrysler?s list includes their Town & Country and Caravan minivans, the Ram pickup truck, and the Stratus and Sebring sedans. Ford?s Taurus, Explorer and Ranger are the blue oval?s FFVs while for GM, various pick up trucks and SUVs make up their offerings. Isuzu, Mazda, Mercedes, Volvo, and Nissan all produce FFVs, while Honda and Toyota do not.

One of the hardest decisions is deciding to buy a WRX STI or a Lancer Evolution. Both of the cars are very similar and are fantastic. The new MR edition (Mitsubishi Racing) has created a more competition for the WRX this year. The MR edition is not as quite as nice as the British version that sports 342 HP and a 60 thousand dollar price tag but it is better than last years Evolution. The new Lancer has 5 more ponies than last years model and has many more features that give the STI a run for its money.

Your car is probably front wheel drive, and is equipped with CV joints, or constant velocity joints. These joints transfer power from the engine to the front wheels. These should be inspected regularly to insure that the integrity of rubber boot that surrounds the metal inside. If this boots breaks, the components inside become exposed to the elements and can very quickly destroy the entire axle.

Bad CV joint boots can cause a knocking sound when the wheel is turned in a certain direction, on acceleration or braking, or at irregular, seemingly unrelated intervals. There also may be vibration. This symptom is more often evident at high speeds, that being above 60 miles per hour.

The coolant level of your engine should be checked frequently. You car not only uses this coolant to keep your engine from overheating, but on many cars it also provides lubricant for the water pump. Without lubricant this pump may fail, leaving you with an undesired expense.

Only check your coolant level when the engine is cold. Absolutely never open it when the engine is hot.

First, locate your coolant tank. Note the fluid level and compare it against the marks on the side of the tank to determine if you need more coolant. It should be between the low and full marks. If it is too low, or you can’t see any coolant in the tank at all, you should add more coolant.

The hardening of the plan of reorganization of Ford did not convince anybody, and especially not the financial markets. How else could it have been if the manufacturer has adopted a traditional strategy of reduction of the costs? Admittedly, this purging will inevitably have a positive impact on the accounts. But it is not likely to start it again if Ford is on the way of the development whereas its marketshares decrease unrelentingly on the other side of the Atlantic. A report which is also worth for its large American competitor General Motors. The fact that GM removed, during ten last years, 60 % of its manpower did not draw it from the rut.
