For all the criticism lobbied against U.S. automakers, there is one area where the American car makers take the lead: FFVs. Flexible fuel vehicles [FFV, which are powered by a fuel comprised of up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, are produced and marketed by American manufacturers at volumes greater than their Asian or European competitors combined. DaimlerChrysler?s list includes their Town & Country and Caravan minivans, the Ram pickup truck, and the Stratus and Sebring sedans. Ford?s Taurus, Explorer and Ranger are the blue oval?s FFVs while for GM, various pick up trucks and SUVs make up their offerings. Isuzu, Mazda, Mercedes, Volvo, and Nissan all produce FFVs, while Honda and Toyota do not.

The function of a lubrication medium is: 1. To form a film between moving bearing components so that metal to metal contact is prevented. 2. To reduce friction and eliminate wear 3. To protect against corrosion 4. To seal against impurities like dust, dirt, water. In order for the oil film to be formed between the moving bearing components, the film must be sufficiently thick even under heavy load, high temperatures or vibrations. Some sleeve bearings that has very heavy loads, like in the crosshead bearings of diesel engines, usually have provisions for injecting pressurized oil to float the shafts. This method is called hydrostatic lubrication.

Annual quick lube survey, is it still viable? I wish to comment on the Fast Lube Business and the annual survey done by Auto Laundry News, one of the few Industry Magazines for the car wash industry. In this 2001 survey, we see an increase on the number of locations out there. Yet the leader of the Industry is by far Jiffy Lube. We see variations on theme, but we can safely say that Jiffy Lube has adapted best to the American public and their desires when it comes to oil changes.

A few years ago, it was difficult to find synthetic motor oils, and equally difficult to find someone who admitted to using them. Nowadays, however, you can find synthetic motor oils on the shelves of Wal-Mart, and other retailers, and the number of people turning to synthetic motor oils, particularly in light of the recent events affecting fuel prices, has risen greatly. So why do people use synthetic motor oils rather than sticking with the old petroleum based stand-bys which are admittedly cheaper?

Hybrid cars are a fusion of technologies. Unlike standard cars moving on a single propulsion system, hybrid cars are driven by the power of multiple propulsion systems. Most common among these hybrid vehicles are those cars that use gasoline and electrical energy as their source of power. Serious experimentations with ethanol or plant based oils are also being conducted. History

It?s likely that the farmers would not blockade the countries roads for starters as people come resigned to the fact that high prices are here to stay. Unfortunately, the high prices are unlikely to decrease and are becoming more and more likely with increasing tensions around the world in oil economies leading to decreasing oil supply and price volatility in the world markets. Fossil fuels are running out an alarming rate and people are starting to look seriously at other alternatives.

Will the automakers and the country as a whole take advantage of a golden opportunity, or will apathy prevail again. I use the term E85 Ethanol metaphorically, what I?m talking about is fuel made from a renewable source. I don?t care what you call it. It happens that we already have the technology and the facilities to produce Ethanol. Ethanol can be made from all sorts of organic material, wood chips, corn stalks, beets, saw grass and so on. The golden opportunity for the auto industry is that America for a change is ahead of foreign competition in the development of multi-fuel vehicles and USA is the agricultural leader of the world.

The US is becoming more dependent upon others for her oil needs. The ironic thing about this sad state of affairs is that those who like us the least, we depend upon the most for oil. They are cognizant of the fact that America?s insatiable thirst for gasoline has increased 45% over the last 50 years?and continues to rise?unabated! We have spent centuries building up our world leadership position. Many countries big and small have in the past, looked to the US for leadership. Unfortunately, these same countries now view us as a toothless tiger because of our dependence upon others for oil.

There is a lot of confusion about oil in motorcycles. Specially marketed motorcycle oil is a lot more expensive than oil sold for cars, but is it really safe to run car oil? Yes, just make sure it meets SG, SH, SJ, or SL service requirements. Generally, you are better off with a heavy-duty oil for motorcycles, such as 15w40, below is a list of oils known to work well in motorcycles: 1. Chevron Delo 400 15w40
